Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT), the second-biggest mobile phone maker in the world, on Monday said its quarterly earnings rose citing higher sales.

The company, which changed its reporting date from Tuesday to Monday after a downgrade of its debt late on Friday, reported a third-quarter net income of $116 million, or 5 cents a share, compared with a profit of $111 million, or 5 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. On average, analysts had projected profit of 3 cents per share. The shares ended up 0.58% to $13.87. While shares of Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE: MI) gained 2.65 percent to $34.72, after today said its third quarter earnings rose, citing increased customer borrowings and improved loan credit quality.
